Description

Diagnostic Description

Straight shell excluding hind most part, which is curved dorsally. Wavy transverse striation. Lateral ribs of ventral side are double, with flat lateral surface between each two ribs (anteriorly concave, gutter-shaped). 3 dorsal ribs present, with middle rib the broadest. Embryonic shell is oval with clear cusp, worn off in adults. Nor real differences between juvenile and adult specimens, excluding length.  [van der Spoel, 1967]

Distribution: Atlantic Range: Off North American coast between 20° and 40° N, Northeastern Caribbean, North & South Equatorial Area, Eastern part of South Transitional Area (excluding Benguela Current and Sargasso Sea). Indian Range: West of Sumatra, South Transitional Area near subtropical convergence. Pacific Range: North of Borneo, North of New Guinea, East of Japan, off California West coast, off Cape Horn, South of Juan Fernandez Isles.  [van der Spoel, 1967]
